Since it is a gift l would prefer if it is not so technical. But do suggest if there are some good technical books. Books on history of architecture, philosophical schools and new movements in the field of architecture, fiction would do.

Macallister.It has pictures of every style of american house.For fiction try Ken Follett is Pillars of the Earth.It is about a master builder of a cathedral.

just a fun book involving an architect is the wright 3, by blue balliet. its about these three kids, and they save the architecture of a building. but before you read that, i would read chasing vermeer, by the same author, because it is the first book in the sequel
